The Value of the Printed Image

The value of the printed image was brought home to me recently when a client was looking at some of the products we have to offer.  The couple has been in for a cake smash for their daughter’s 1st Birthday and at the viewing, they asked about our Memory Box – this is not only all the images on a USB but they are all printed as well in a keepsake box.     The images are touchable and tangible as they are printed.  One of our Dad’s has a wish for his daughter on her 18th Birthday to be able to open the box and see the images from her 1st Birthday! They will also gather up special mementos over the years and add to them.  Photographs that they take of their daughter will also be added to the USB so that she has an amazing record of her growing up.    This reminded me of a wonderful writing case that I have of my Granny’s in which she had stored images of her growing up and in her early twenties.  She has carefully marked each one in pencil to tell us where the image was taken and who is in it! We had a wonderful time going through the black and white photos with slightly curled-up edges.    Photographs were so exciting as I was growing up –  taking the negative pod to the chemist and waiting for a week or more for them to come back – then going through them and laughing at the out-of-focus ones.  When people came to visit, they would bring their holiday pictures to show us places they had been and what they had done.    Now in 2022, we expect everything to last forever, technology will last, and our precious memories are backed up on a cloud.  Unfortunately, technology fails, the moving parts seize, and the cloud can be wiped in a blink of an eye.  What is left for us to pass on to the next generation? So, it is still so important to print your photographs, add them to photo books, create wall art or simply print the ones you really love and create a memory box of your own for your children and their children to wonder at just as we have wondered over old images from generations past.
