If you are expecting and looking into our Newborn Photo Shoots, then you will see a term that comes up time and time again – ‘Floating Date’.Â
Now, to be honest, this took me a while to get my head around when we first started training around the Newborn genre of photography but essentially, it’s all about timing!
As far as I am aware, no one knows unless they have to have a planned C Section when their little one might arrive so this is why we have a ‘floating date’ for you in our diary. If you would like a Newborn Photo Shoot then it is much, much better to prebook with any trained Newborn Photographer. This is for the following reasons.
- If you pre-book then as a studio, we know that you will require a session around that time.Â
- We know it generally your photo shoot won’t be on that day, but you are in our diary.
- Trained Newborn photography studios will have a waiting list so better to be on the list than not.
- Many Newborn studios will prioritise pre-booked sessions over new enquiries or at the very least make provisions to ensure all bookings can be fulfilled.Â
- Not every birth is straightforward, you may need/want to take some time to recover.
Also at this stage, the time of your ‘floating date’ does not matter as this will more than likely NOT be your actual photo shoot date or time.
Having had 2 boys, I know full well that it is impossible to predict when they are going to arrive – your due date is a guide. To give you a guide, our boys arrived as follows – Baby 1 was born a week early so clever clogs me thought that would be the same for baby 2 – not a hope – he was forcibly ejected 3, yes 3 weeks late!!!
So, you see the ‘floating date’ does have some logic and the way we calculate it is by the following method –
Due Date + 7 days = ‘floating date’
We will also keep in touch with you by sending you a text and email around your due date asking if your little one has arrived. I think the best answer came back nope but I’m just having an epidural so will be in touch soon! We don’t expect that from all our clients at all!
Once you are healthy, happy, and home, then we will confirm your booking in our diary. We hope that we can get your confirmed booking when your partner is still on paternity leave so we can complete your first family portrait together.
We are very used to moving dates and times around our diary so please don’t think this is a bother for us – it’s what we do! I hope that has explained what we mean by ‘floating date’ To book your ‘floating date’ in the diary please go to www.timelessimagesphotos/.co.uk/newborns/
