Welcoming a newborn into the world is a momentous occasion, filled with love, joy, and the exciting journey of parenthood. Maternity leave doesn’t mean staying cooped up indoors – Itโs important that you get out and about with your little one.ย In our latest blog, we explore what you can do in and around Bridgwater with your new little one.ย
1. Nourish Bumps and Babies, Sea Cadet Hall every Monday 10.30am โ 12.30pm except Bank Holidays
This is a wonderful group which is invaluable in the first few weeks and months after the delivery of your baby.ย There is a team of volunteers on hand all of whom are trained in peer support for breastfeeding mums.ย All mums are welcome and Dads too with coffee and cake always available.ย Check out the Facebook page for more information
2. Activity Groups for you and your baby
There are lots of groups that you can attend with your baby even when they are very small.ย Stimulating your babiesโ senses when they are little helps to develop language skills along with the other senses of taste, sight, touch, smell, and sound. You will also benefit from meeting other mums with little ones.ย
The Jolly Melodies Music Company will take your child on a musical journey from birth, all the way through the pre-school ages. The structured weekly music classes use baby songs and fun activities for childrenย to encourage listening and social skills, so essential not only in music but in all other areas of learning. They will develop a sense of rhythm, which will also help with learning and speech development. Classes are friendly, structured, interactive and educational. Spaces are limited so advance booking is essential.
We recommend Jolly Melodies Music Company but there are others available in the area including
Baby Sensory, StarBubs and Splat Messy Play
Don’t forget there is also The Play Barn and Jolley Jumpers
3. Meet up with other new Mumโs.
Bridgwater has an array of coffee shops with space and facilities to welcome new Mumโs.ย This may not be an everyday occurrence but as a treat once a week to share your experiences. Plan to meet up and walk into town โ the fresh air and exercise all in one help to improve your mood. Itโs a good idea to be as real as you can during these meet-ups. We all know life is not all as wonderful as Instagram can often make out.ย Itโs lovely to have someone to confide in with any issues you face.ย These friends in my case have become lifelong friends as you will meet again at dancing, football, rugby, trampolining and all the other activities that your little ones will want to do when they are older!
Embrace the joys of maternity leave by immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of experiences that Bridgwater has to offer. From strolls along the canal to afternoon teas, cherish these precious moments with your baby as you explore all that our town has to have in store.
