Yesterday I spent the afternoon (20th November 2024) at the Houses of Parliament and received an MPHERoes Award having been nominated by local MP Sir Ashely Fox.Â
It was a real privilege to be part of this group of businesswomen all of whom are working within their own communities helping and encouraging others. The event is run by Savvitas and sponsored by Nat West with each MP being invited to nominate a female entrepreneur from their constituency.
The event was held in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week. It was fascinating to talk about getting women and girls into business and encouraging the media to paint a positive picture of creating a business. The importance of getting girls interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) It has been found that girls aged 11-15 often struggle with maths at this age and we need encouragement that they can change their career choice later. Working with schools and colleges we need to encourage and show what happens in real life giving back to others, especially girls and women.
The group heard the Launch of the Savvitas White Paper, ‘Leveraging Opportunity for Women’s Entrepreneurship’ —a roadmap for empowering women in fast-growing businesses. I will update you when more information becomes available!
Caroline Noakes, MP and Deputy Speaker attended and encouraged the conference attendees to ‘be bold and sell yourself’. Sureena Brackenridge, MP for Wolverhampton North East, encouraged each one of us to ‘Be the Change that is needed to bring more women into business’.
Savvitas is working hard on a variety of projects including ‘Fast Growth Forum’ which contributes to the UK’s ambition to advance its leading role as a top scale-up economy – Other Programmes can be found here
I am now part of this amazing group of women and will be invited to attend other events in the future. I do feel honoured to be recognised and championed as an MP HERoes Businesswoman – it is such a privilege, thank you very much!
